Spilling T is a letter to myself and my son mainly in my mother language Dutch. It lets me express my thoughts with clarity and depth, capturing the essence of my personal stories, observations, experiences, and reflections.
A Long Story short
In 2024 I gave birth to a healthy son in Suriname. We, my husband Nicholas and I decided we would call him T.Rex - Tatum Rex. April 30th of that year we came back to America, so Nicholas could work, while we were still figuring out the pro’s and con’s of staying in the United States of America or move back to Suriname, where I am from.
Before all this I worked as a video journalist & media consultant in Suriname for corporate and NGO’s. I participated in exchange and fellowship programs of the State Department and The American Embassy in Suriname. During one of the programs I met my now husband. We dated, after the program, did long-distance and decided to travel in 2023 to South East Asia. Finding X is Nicholas his Substack focused on his travel journey whereas our timeline is noted.
After we discovered we might be pregnant, we started planning and discussing. Arriving back in the US, we moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Branson, Missouri where his family lives. We decided the best way forward is to get married, which we did, and as a married pregnant woman I went back to Suriname to give birth while being with my friends and family.
Fast forward to now, I am a fulltime stay-at-home mom, not able to work, due to my nonimmigrant visa status, which changed as of July 3rd, 2025, to a permanent resident. Spilling T was my way to spill my tea with you by sharing my eXperience, observations and reflections on my journey of navigating motherhood & rediscovering purpose as a former career woman. Where will my journey lead me to?

We all have a story to share and we need a support system, that is one of the biggest realization since my new role. It definitely feels lonely. Plus, this is a space for EVERYONE, yes, even furbabies.
My believe is rooted in the fact that people have universal similarities. They also pursue the same goals. They just do so in different ways considering the culture backgrounds, upbringing, and life experiences. AND with that, that we can find common grounds and learn from and with each other.
